Best M4 Loadout in MW4 Patch 1.0 / Oct 2026 Meta — All-round AR · no weak range
At 810 RPM the M4 has the widest margin for error of any rifle in the game — make the same tracking mistake and it costs you one bullet fewer than a 600 RPM gun would. The trade-off is a late unlock at level 14, but once it comes online it carries a whole match.

Q1 Is the M4 still meta? +
Yes. On patch 1.0 it sits in S tier: 810 RPM plus a 20–35m damage plateau makes it the only rifle that never loses a mid-range trade. The price is that you wait until level 14 to unlock it.
Q2 Is the M4 Hurricane Apex worth grinding for? +
It converts the M4 into a 5.7x28mm top-feed high-capacity kit, which turns it into a close-range suppression gun. If you already run the VEL 46 or X-58 Nyx, treat this Apex as a collector item.
Q3 Long barrel or short barrel on the M4? +
Long barrel by default. Only swap to a short barrel on tiny maps like Shipment or Transit 213, trading range for roughly 30ms of ADS speed.
The steadiest gun at every range — once you are comfortable with it, you never need to swap mid-match.
